Self-Doubt in Leadership: The 3 T's That Get Me Through

In this honest, personal reflection, executive leadership partner and coach Louise shares what happened when she walked into a Women on Boards workshop and found herself sitting among 15 women with board experience she doesn't yet have. On one hand, soaking up the insight. On the other, a familiar voice building: Am I really ready? Am I enough?

It's a story so many leaders tell themselves — and it's only ever a story that gets in the way.

Louise's 3 T's for working through self-doubt:

T — Truth. What's your truth? We all experience this from time to time. Naming it out loud gives other people permission to know it's okay, and that they can work through it too.

T — Things. What are the things you can do to recognise self-doubt and overcome it? For Louise, it's a weekly discipline of reflection — every Friday, taking stock of what she's achieved, what she's learned, and what she's proud of.

T — Tribe. Who are you surrounding yourself with? The people around you shape your mindset and your confidence more than you think.

This is what imperfect leadership looks like in practice. Self-doubt is normal. It's human. What matters is what you do about it — because when you change the story you tell yourself, you help others do the same.
